Why this registry exists

Why a CE claim is not enough

A CE logo on a box or a sentence on a product page only tells you that a claim is being made. Under European PPE rules, certification applies to a defined product and its approved technical design. It does not automatically cover every boot sold by the same company.

    The exact model must match

    The model name, responsible manufacturer or OEM, construction and certificate must form one traceable chain. Certification applies to a defined product. A genuine certificate for a similar boot or a whole product family does not verify the boot that reaches you.

    A certificate can be misused

    Certificate numbers, CE marks and document scans can be copied, altered, expired or shown beside a product they never covered. A label photograph alone cannot prove that the current retail model and the certificate are the same product.

    Production must stay in conformity

    Type examination assesses a sample and its technical design. The manufacturer remains responsible for production matching the approved type. Changes to materials, sole, protectors, construction or factory may require reassessment and fresh evidence.

Why might a valid certificate stay private? It can expose an OEM or private-label manufacturing relationship that a brand treats as commercially sensitive. Missing public evidence is not proof that a product is uncertified. It means the public claim cannot be independently checked. Our planned confidential verification route is intended for that situation.

The registry

What publicly verified means

Two things have to line up in documents anyone can open:

  • A named certificate from a notified body citing EN 13634:2017, the European standard for motorcycle footwear.
  • Exact model match: the certificate names the same model you can buy, not a lookalike or a whole product family.

Skill Issue checks publicly accessible documents and exact-model linkage. It does not perform lab tests, certify products, or endorse sellers.

Limitations

An EU type-examination certificate covers the approved product type. It is not a laboratory test of every retail pair. The manufacturer is responsible for keeping production in conformity with that approved type.

Skill Issue verifies the document chain to the exact retail model. We cannot inspect factory consistency or confirm that an individual pair has not been substituted or changed.
